MUSEUM OF GEOLOGY

The museum was founded in 2001.

Natural finds collected by professors and students of Magtymguly Turkmen State University from different parts of our beloved country: specimens of various minerals, ores and fossils form the basis of the Museum of Geology.

More than 1,200 specimens of minerals and ores are currently kept in the museum's 200m2 room.

The museum consists of several sections that differ in the content of the collected specimens. One of those sections is about celestial bodies, where you have the opportunity to get acquainted with the amazing information about meteorites that have fallen to Earth. The projects made according to the actual forms of “Koneurgench” meteorite and “Boyadag” mud-volcano serve as demonstrations in the museum. The museum also has images showing geological phenomena, and forms of reliefs; and has information about the nature of our country, more precisely, about the State nature reserves.

MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY AND ETHNOGRAPHY

The museum was established in 1988. Today, the museum houses about 700 specimens reflecting the archeology of Turkmenistan, the material and spiritual culture of the Turkmen people, daily life and economy of the Turkmen. Some of them are rare specimens that are not found in other museums of Turkmenistan.

The museum contains artifacts from Altyndepe, Margush, Nisa, Merv and finds from monuments belonging to various historical epochs of our country.

There is ahal bag embroidered with “gabsa” ornament in the museum, which was woven approximately in the middle of the 19th century. It can be found among the carpet specimens in museums of our country. But this bag is totally different from the others in terms of its finesse, the thinness of the strings, the structure of the ornament.

Depbe, thought to belong to the Western nomadic Turkmens, is considered to be one of the unique models of the museum. “Depbe” made of a solution was no less strong than the jugs made on the hearth. Different kinds of liquid-flavored dishes (butter, toshap, etc.) have been stored in the “depbe” for a long time without being spoilt. Making a “depbe” is a unique form of pottery among the nomadic Turkmens.

The Museum of Archeology and Ethnography is one of the centers promoting the history, archeological monuments, ethnography, material and spiritual culture of the Turkmen people.
