1253UNESCO Chair “Cultural Heritage: From the Past to the Future” at Magtymguly Turkmen State University
On February 18, 2023, the UNESCO Chair “Cultural Heritage: From the Past to the Future” was inaugurated at Magtymguly Turkmen State University. The establishment of the UNESCO Chair has provided the University with broad opportunities to develop cooperation with leading global research and educational centers and foreign universities. At the UNESCO Chair, faculty members and students study the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people and the peoples of the world, applying modern research methods in this field. Under the academic supervision of the Chair’s professors, students carry out research projects devoted to cultural heritage. The Chair also promotes the exchange of experience with UNESCO Chairs at universities in foreign countries.
The objective of the Chair is to study and promote the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people and the peoples of the world. Based on this objective, the UNESCO Chair “Cultural Heritage: From the Past to the Future” at Magtymguly Turkmen State University has planned the following activities:
• studying cultural heritage, material and spiritual values, and contributing to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage;
• encouraging young researchers—faculty members and students—to explore cultural heritage as a scientific field of study;
• organizing scientific conferences, round tables, meetings, and interviews on issues related to the study of the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people and the peoples of the world, as well as integrating research findings into the educational process;
• promoting the development of international scientific cooperation between the University and UNESCO;
• fostering academic cooperation with UNESCO Chairs at higher educational institutions in Turkmenistan and abroad.
During this period, the Chair has organized and held several scientific and practical conferences, including international ones. As a result, the following collections of papers were published:
• Cultural Heritage as a Source of Patriotic Education of Youth. – Ylym, 2023 (in Turkmen, English, and Russian).
• The Works of Magtymguly Fragi as a Universal Heritage. – Ylym, 2024 (in Turkmen, English, and Russian).
• The Role of International Peace and Trust in the Study and Preservation of Cultural Heritage. – Ylym, 2025 (in Turkmen, English, and Russian).
Students of the Chair have defended their graduation theses on the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people and the peoples of the world.
Faculty members of the Chair have participated in several international scientific conferences and round tables with presentations on cultural heritage and have published articles in foreign collected volumes and academic journals.
