Faculty of English Language and Literature
1741The faculty of foreign languages and literature was founded in 1959. In 2019, on its basis the English language and literature faculty was established.
The departments of the faculty are English phonetics and lexicology, English stylistics and grammar, foreign languages. Specialists in English language and literature are trained in these departments. The students of the faculty are taught German and French languages as the second foreign languages.
At the faculty, scientific research works are being carried out on the comparative history and typology of linguistics; analyzing the complex sentence structure in English language; demonstrating the usages of the different types of verbs; distinguishing stress structure in English and Turkmen languages; analyzing the compound verbs in English and Turkmen languages; determining the ways of enriching the vocabulary of English and Turkmen languages and etc.
On the 22nd of December in 2017, Our Hero Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Resolution approving the “Concept of improving the teaching of foreign languages” at the Meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. According to this Resolution, the faculty staff works effectively in the development of new methods of training, the training of highly qualified specialists, motivation of students and in implementation of the concept at all levels of the educational process. The professor-teachers of the faculty are carrying out significant works in improving the system of training and retraining of teachers, the educational and methodological base in this area, monitoring the effectiveness of the implementation of the Concept; preparation and development of electronic dictionaries, academic textbooks, and manuals, preparation of the translations of the Turkmen folk stories; organization of methodological workshops for the teachers teaching foreign languages.
On graduating from the University, the students are qualified as “philologists, teachers”. The graduates of the faculty are able to work at the educational establishments, scientific-research institutions, culture systems, mass media broadcasting, and other state fields.
